14 months old

At 14 months, Blaykleigh ...

  • started walking! That's right, we've had ourselves a walking gal for exactly one month and 4 days. And boy does she know how to get around.
  • says "uh oh" a lot, like all the time, like no matter what it is ... the response is "uh oh". She is just too cute.
  • said 'shoes' the other day although it was more like "choooose".
  • loves to rock all her 'babies' as she pats them on the back.
  • will put anything and everything around her neck that resembles a necklace and walks around all proud like, i.e. the cat's shoe string toy. It's cute but scares me at the same time ... I do not want her to some how strangler herself, therefore I am quick to remove it and distract her with something a bit safer.
  • got a set of plastic pink mini golf clubs for her birthday from a friend and loves them. She goes around the house swinging them like a "pro". Okay so no PGA Champion as of yet but you never know what the future holds and if Jason has anything to do with it then I best start learning to enjoy watching the sport.
  • loves reading books. All day everyday she is bringing books up to me for her and I to look at and read.
  • has learned to car dance! The music comes on and she starts bobbing her head up and down as she simultaneously clicks her tongue to her own beat.
  • knows where our candy stash is. We have this glass jar on our bar that always has some sort of sweets in it. Well, I think she has seen us treating ourselves one too many times because now she walks up to it and points and says "buh buh buh", which is something she does when she wants something. I may or may not have given her a piece of chocolate a time or two (shhhh!).
  • is at the age where she dislikes hates having her diaper changed. It's not fun, for either of us.
  • loves getting into anything and everything that she is not supposed to. She has plenty of toys to occupy her but the off limits things in the house are her fave ... like the honey jar in the pantry, she is obsessed with the honey jar!
               Her words:
                 dada
                 mama
                 uh-oh
                 tenk you (thank you)
                 ba-ba (bottle)
                 kee cat (kitty cat)
                 nigh-nigh (night, night)
                 choooose (shoes)
                 maaaow (meow)

Canvas Quotes

A good portion of this weekend was dedicated to getting our creative juices flowing! It all started with this great desire within to do something different with our "kitchen table wall". I did a little searching on pinterest (surprise, surprise) and came across a really neat project which you can find here and once I got the husband on board I made it our weekend mission. Friday afternoon, we hit up JoAnn's and bought our supplies and Friday night once the little miss was slumbering, we got down to business! On a side note, have I ever said how much I l-o-v-e that my husband helps me with all these crafty projects of mine? ... Because I DO!!!

Some instructions on 'how to' just incase you would like to give it a go!

Materials:
  • canvas of all sizes
  • acrylic paint
  • vinyl letters - you can find them where they have the presentation boards, Walmart was the cheapest at $3.99 a pack
  • scrapbook paper
  • sandpaper
  • sponge paint brushes
  • mod podge
The 'how to':
  • apply mod podge to the canvas and adhere the scrapbook paper to it
  • once you have allowed several minutes for the mod podge to dry place your vinyl letters onto the canvas
  • start painting the entire canvas with a light coat of paint (you want the scrapbook paper to lightly show through the paint)
  • after the paint is dry you can then peel off the vinyl letters
  • if the paint it too thick on canvas or if you want more of a vintage look then rub the sandpaper randomly over the canvas but be careful not to press too hard
  • last apply a coat of mod podge to the entire canvas for a finished look

... and the finished product!

Insta-Friday: Kansas style

After a 12+ hour drive straight through the night, we had finally reached Kansas and what a beautiful sight it was!

Once we rested up some, we took Blaykleigh to surprise her Granny at work!!! Quickly she became the star of the office showing off all her "tricks".

Wasn't much of a surprise that Blaykleigh found herself a new furry friend!

Cousin l-o-v-e-i-n!

Blaykleigh's Great Grandma whom she walked to ... for the very FIRST time!!! What a wonderful memory to cherish.

Ahhhhhhh SuperTARGET
I ((heart)) you!

This little girl is loved so much by so many people!

Since her Granny & Grampy couldn't make it to her first birthday, they threw her another one! Such a lucky little beauty, two 1st birthday's!

Granny hugs!

Saying her goodbyes to all of Granny's garden critters!

We miss you guys!!!

We had such a wonderful time on our vacation in Kansas! Got to spend a lot of overdue time with family and made so many special memories but just like that, we were on our way back to Texas.

Day at the zoo

I have been to several zoo's in my 26 years of life but I think the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, KS takes the cake! This zoo was so well laid out and had so much character to it, that I for one was throughly impressed. So much so, that I didn't even mind that it felt like we walking on the face sun that day but even that wasn't an issue because they had these wonderful misters at just about each exhibit. Kudos SCZ, kudos!

They have a rather large petting zoo there as well, Blaykleigh was completely fascinated by all the goats! I am still trying to talk Jason into letting us add one to our collection of animals (wink, wink). So far it has been a solid "NO" but it never hurts to keep trying!

I think my favorite exhibit were the cats - the very, very large version of our cuddle balls of fur at home! I bet Blaykleigh would have enjoyed them as well but that just so happened to be the exhibit where she decided to take a little "cat nap". If these beautiful creatures were herbivores she would have looked awful cute cuddled between the two sleepy cougars!

By the time we reached the monkeys she was awake and had the time of her life communicating with them through the plexiglass windows! There was a lot of "ooo ooo aaa aaa" coming from her as she bounced up and down along side the window, she was even intriguing enough for the orangoutang to leave his lettuce and come check her out. Once we reached the gift shop, I think she had a little identity crisis going on! (only kidding) but placing her amongst all the monkeys was a really cute photo opp.
